About

Gene Wolfenbarger & FamilyGene Wolfenbarger is the Senior Pastor at The Gathering. He was raised in Sevierville during his teenage years, and then left for Texas to attend college. He is a graduate of Criswell Bible College in Dallas, Texas. After twelve years of evangelism, Gene was hosting a student conference in Kansas City. At the conference God convicted Gene that he was to return to his home in the Smoky Mountains to begin a non-denominational Purpose Driven Church. Two days later, on November 18, 1999, God very clearly spoke to him through His Word and revealed that the name of the church in Sevierville was to be called The Gathering. The confirmation came through the scripture found in Ezekiel 28:25. ”This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people.”

Gene and Karen celebrated twenty-two years of marriage in 2007. They have two sons, Corey and Seth.

Pastor Wolfenbarger preached a revival at my home church, East Taylorsville Baptist, several years ago. During that revival, I announced my call into ministry and wanted to thank Pastor Wolfenbarger for guiding me, through his sermon, to making the public. I have served in two churches as a youth minister, one as an associate pastor, and I am now senior pastor of a church in Henrietta, NC. Thanks for your role in getting me where I am today.

Put in Gene Wolfenbarger and got this website. My sister, Cyndi and I used to know a Gene Wolfenbarger in Ft. Worth, TX in the early 70’s, when we belonged to Joy Baptist Temple. He had a brother, David, and 2 sisters, Darla and Laura. My dad, Don Aleff, taught at Joy Baptist School for a couple of years before we moved to Arizona. You aren’t, by chance, the same Gene Wolfenbarger are you?
