Doing their Very Favorite Past Time: Shopping
Parker Palmer, a great Quaker, wrote the book ‘Let Your Life Speak’. In it he wrote “Our Calling is not in Choosing but in LISTENING.” Mortimer Adler, the great philosopher calls this “The GREAT CONVERSATION” - and because it is my Birthday (hooray for me!) I began to ponder the question “How will one spend the next 44 years?”
In this life will a man seek a CAREER or a CALLING? As I meditated on this question one thing became very clear to me…
A Career ends with a bunch of toys but a Calling ends with eternal blessings. Just look in The Bible ….
Pharaoh had a Career—but Moses had a Calling.
Potiphar had a Career—but Joseph had a Calling.
Haman had a Career—but Esther had a Calling.
Ahab had a Career—but Elijah had a Calling.
Pilate had a Career—but Jesus had a Calling.
The man or woman that seeks a CAREER is rewarded in this life. On the other hand, the man or woman that seeks a CALLING is rewarded in another life.
